Heather vs. The Heat (and Everything Else)
Dear friends,
Let me paint you a picture: It’s August in New York. The air is thick enough to chew, my pets are sprawled out like overheated pancakes, and I’m wondering why I ever thought I could survive without central air. Spoiler alert—I can’t. The fans are working overtime, the ice packs are now fashion accessories, and I’ve started rating rooms by their sweat index.
But the heat is just the opening act.
This month has been a whirlwind of life chaos. Between a major leak in our bathroom seeping into the bedroom, an infestation of yellow jackets making their home in the dormer above my bedroom window, and trying to keep my pets cool and safe, I’ve basically become a one-woman operations center. Add in preparing for the anthology, some editorial projects, and a dash of existential dread about pumpkin spice season starting too early—and voilà! You’ve got Heather’s August.
Also, Mudgy turned seven this month 🎉. He’s aging like a fine pug wine—gracefully, with a touch of snorty wisdom and a whole lot of charm. He’s been my shadow through the chaos, and frankly, he’s handling the heat better than I am.

Now for the big update:
I’ve decided to delay the release of Soulful Melody, which was originally slated for November 1st. The new release date is February 1st. This wasn’t an easy decision, but my health hasn’t allowed me to give the story the veracity it deserves. These characters mean a lot to me, and I want to do right by them—and by you.
If you preordered and received a cancellation notice, I’m truly sorry. But I’d love to make it up to you: send me a screenshot or image showing your canceled preorder, and I’ll send you a care package with some super slick swag. Think of it as a thank-you for your patience and support.
